‘The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness…’

So wrote Scottish-American naturalist and author John Muir, who was also an early advocate of preservation of wilderness in the United States.  He would have approved of the tall gum trees at the base of Mt. Warning, says Verandah Magazine publisher Candida Baker.  “I took this photograph on a walk early one morning,” she says.  “I love the way the ferns break up the tree foliage, as it reaches to the sky.”
