A morning walk turns into a journey of discovery for Verandah Magazine’s resident psychic and medium Liz Winter.

One morning, in a reflective mood, I walking  down the street during the mundane, routine hours of a working day – I could almost say my body walked my soul, when I began to study the faces that passed by me.

When you really start to look at the people passing you, it’s an interesting process, and, sad to say, there not that many happy faces.  Some people passed me by with faces like stone, some had paper thin tight smiles, others seemed so distant and vague it was as if there was  no one home.

But then I saw a woman kiss a dog and a mother bend down to comfort her crying child…and suddenly I had a thought: Do we all wonder at some point in our lives, who is going to love us?

When we know we are loved our world brightens, when we know we are loved, our challenges seem easier, when we know we are loved we find strength we didn’t know we had. But can we depend on others to love us at all times? Unconditional love is rare, even from parent to child.  So where can we turn to for those inevitable occasions when we feel unloved, unwanted or misunderstood?

My love of spiritual matters has often been my source of love when human love seems to have temporarily deserted me.  Feeling a warmth from the ‘other side’ in a form of a sign, a vision, a dream or a message has  been like a blanket of comfort more than once in my life.

However, as I’m ageing, and entering my ‘wise woman’ years, (I hope) it is clear to me that the most powerful love is self love. Self love, once you’ve connected to it, is always on tap and never lets you down.  Now, when I wake in the morning, I kiss my own shoulder, (because it’s easy to reach) hug my body and say to myself, ‘Liz, you are so special and you rock.’  Funnily enough, once we do own that self love, others seem to offer their love freely and frequently, which leads me to the inevitable conclusion so many people have written and spoken about – self love is a magnet.  In the manner of the Law of Attraction, you attract what you project.  If you project self-love more love will come.

And the best thing?  You can love yourself anywhere, all the time, any time.  It takes very little effort once you’ve got started, it’s absolutely free and when you’re brimming with self-love you’ll be amazed at how everybody around you will feel happy in your company – even the passers-by in the street are likely to smile!

Here are some guidelines and tips I took from the Queen of self love – Louise Hay;

12 Commandments to help you learn how to love yourself:

Stop All Criticism.
Criticism never changes a thing. Refuse to criticize yourself. Accept yourself exactly as you are. Everybody changes. When you criticize yourself, your changes are negative. When you approve of yourself, your changes are positive.

Forgive Yourself.
Let the past go. You did the best you could at the time with the understanding, awareness, and knowledge that you had. Now you are growing and changing, and you will live life differently.

Don’t Scare Yourself.
Stop terrorizing yourself with your thoughts. It’s a dreadful way to live. Find a mental image that gives you pleasure, and immediately switch your scary thought to a pleasure thought.

Be Gentle and Kind and Patient.
Be gentle with yourself. Be kind to yourself. Be patient with yourself as you learn the new ways of thinking. Treat yourself as you would someone you really loved.

Be Kind to Your Mind.
Self-hatred is only hating your own thoughts. Don’t hate yourself for having the thoughts. Gently change your thoughts.

Praise Yourself.
Criticism breaks down the inner spirit. Praise builds it up. Praise yourself as much as you can. Tell yourself how well you are doing with every little thing.

Support Yourself.
Find ways to support yourself. Reach out to friends and allow them to help you. It is being strong to ask for help when you need it.

Be Loving to Your Negatives.
Acknowledge that you created them to fulfill a need. Now you are finding new, positive ways to fulfill those needs. So lovingly release the old negative patterns.

Take Care of Your Body.
Learn about nutrition. What kind of fuel does your body need in order to have optimum energy and vitality? Learn about exercise. What kind of exercise do you enjoy? Cherish and revere the temple you live in.

Do Mirror Work.
Look into your eyes often. Express this growing sense of love you have for yourself. Forgive yourself while looking into the mirror. Talk to your parents while looking into the mirror. Forgive them, too. At least once a day, say, “I love you, I really love you!”

Love Yourself . . . Do It Now.
Don’t wait until you get well, or lose the weight, or get the new job, or find the new relationship. Begin now—and do the best you can.’                                Louise L Hay

February 18/19th is Chinese New Year, the first new moon after the Solstice where the Chinese animal sign changes from Horse to the Sheep. Think “mare to ewe’ as all the Chinese animals are female. This is not the fiery ram of Aries in the Western Zodiac.

As the year of the Green Sheep begins, we enter a slower paced, more relaxed and introspective year. It’s a reflective, sensitive energy that brings plenty of opportunity to tune into feelings and leverage them for our own growth and awareness.

 It’s easy to give ourselves a hard time because the dreams we have are not manifesting, writes Sonia Friedrich. As we near the end of 2014 do you remember the goals and dreams you had at the beginning of this year? How close did you come to reaching them?  Alignment, not action, Friedrich writes, is the key.

This year I’ve manifested many of my dreams – and I still have many to achieve before the year is out.  Most recently, last week in fact, our manifesting powers were put to the test when we had to find a new home within a week.

We’d been given ample notice to move out of our house overlooking Tallows Beach in Byron Bay. Three months in fact. However a series of events occurred that took our focus away from even thinking about moving or looking for a place to live. My partner’s father needed to move into respite, which turned into fulltime aged care, and within weeks he was in hospital with pulmonary oedema. My partner managed all the paper work and was with him and her mother while he was in hospital. It was an emotionally exhausting time. Over two weeks his kidney and heart failure did not respond to treatment. Sadly and unexpectedly, at this time, he passed away. By the time we both landed back home, we were exhausted.

A few weeks later we were still both tired and grief-stricken. However, the one thing we said to each other was “There is no need to panic. If we check in each day and say what is true we will be o.k. This is a critical time for us because we are making life choices and we need to make the right one.” We began looking at properties on the internet. In Byron Bay this time of year there are a handful at best because everyone wants to holiday let for a greater return – it’s the same reason we are being asked to leave the wonderful property we have rented for the last three years. I knew we only needed one property and when anyone told me how difficult this would be to find, immediately I said to myself, “No it won’t. We only need one place. I’ve done this before. I’ll do it again. In fact last time I did it three days before Christmas.” Not once did I ever entertain the negative thought of others or let this enter my vibration.

Focusing on the positive helps eliminate the negative

The key was that I believed with all my being what I was saying.

Within one week we found two places with potential. One further away from where we wished to be. The other popped up a day later. We knew this property and it was literally 500 metres from where we live at the moment. Occasionally I would pass the woman who owned the property on my morning walk.  We’d never spoken before, but the  morning after I’d seen her property was available I thought to myself that if I was meant to see her I would. I was on the board walk watching over Mount Warning for quite some time and when I turned around, she was five metres away from me! If I hadn’t turned around at that moment I wouldn’t have seen her. She arranged for us to see the property that afternoon. Even with our cat and her no pets policy she was happy for us to be the new tenants. We handed over a deposit the next day.

Align and manifest your dreams

For many of us we have had an incredibly busy year. The dreams we were certain to reach eluded us yet they are still our dreams. When you dream something from the deep yearning of your soul you are meant to live it. If something you really want hasn’t happened now is the perfect time to take a look at your life and discover why. Your energy and all that busyness is focused in the wrong direction. Know your pattern and work out how you spend your time so you can avoid being stuck.

1. Alignment not action is what is required
2. You are a vibrational being living in a vibrational universe. When your vibration aligns with what you want then dreams can manifest
3. You can help or hinder this process
4. How you feel tells you if you are helping or hindering this process. This is the KEY. You can tell when something is not aligned almost immediately. When you say or think something and your feel a contraction in your body,  at a fundamental level you do not believe your dream is possible and therefore you are not aligned with what you say or think. Make sure you really do want your dream!
5. You can interrupt bad thoughts or experiences and choose a better feeling place that gives you relief. Doing this will change your vibrations and help you live in alignment.
6. It gets easier and easier with practice.
7. Do what makes you feel good.
8. When you feel true you are aligned and manifest what you want your world will change before your eyes.

Change your vibration and you change your life.
