Ever since the dawn of time humankind has been searching for answers to the meaning of life.  Next January Byron Bay will host the third Afterlife Explorers Conference with local broadcaster and author Barry Eaton as MC.  Verandah Magazine has two free two-day passes to give away – simply leave a comment in the box below or on our FB page to be in the draw.

It’s been a big year and boy, have the months slipped by.  2016 started quietly enough for me, but soon the pace quickened as the hectic events of the year unfolded. Numerology put me in a five year, so I was ready for the changes that would inevitably come. (A recent guest on my internet radio program RadioOutThere.com summed it up when she compared life to a toilet roll. “The further you get into it, the faster it goes”. That’s some philosophy, wise words from a former academic!) The year really kicked off with a trip to Melbourne in late January to MC the second Australian Afterlife Explorer’s Conference and also give a talk. The initial conference was in Sydney the previous year.

The founder and director of the Afterlife Explorers Conferences, Mick Turner, had a near death experience, (NDE) as a deep sea diver in 1998. He followed this with past life regressions, which revealed the link to this life. It inspired Mick to investigate the whole question of the afterlife and ultimately share the knowledge with the Australian public.

There was a strong theme of subjects relating to NDEs in Melbourne, with the keynote speaker PMH Atwater from the US leading the way. PMH is considered one of the world’s foremost authorities on NDEs, and gave two very stirring and thought provoking presentations. She experienced three NDEs in 1977 which led to a series of best-selling books, and many people in the audience were able to relate to the events which transformed her life.

The success of the first two Afterlife Explorers Conferences means that this important event has now become a fixture on the spiritual events calendar in Australia.  Once again I will be the MC in the theatre, and my presentation, based on my books Afterlife and No Goodbyes is called ‘Life Changing Insights From the Other Side’.

The line-up of speakers is impressive for the afterlife conferences. Many people might expect an event of this nature to mainly feature a collection of new age authors, mediums and spiritual gurus , many of the presenters have a scientific or mainstream background and approach the whole question in a very down to earth way (pun intended!). However the spiritual connection is an important factor in every presentation.

The 2017 conference includes topics as diverse as Quantum Consciousness and Near Death Experiences, Identifying embodied ET Souls, Dream Visits from the Dead and The Science of Ghost Research.

International keynote speakers include Dr Robert Davis (USA), Professor of Neuroscience for over 30 years at the State University of NY in Neuroscience and electrophysiology; Rosemary Ellen Guiley (USA), author of 60 books on metaphysical, paranormal and unexplained phenomena; and Linda Backman (USA),  a psychologist specialising in soul regression hypnotherapy.

There is also a very impressive list of Australian speakers, including Mary Rodwell, a world leader in the exploration of ‘Star Seed’ children and their role in awakening human consciousness and Michael Roads, a modern mystic and author of 20 books on his experiences and explorations of alternate realities and dimensions.

Colleen Dooley, a former resident of Byron Bay will speak about The Life Between Life Experience (LBL). Colleen moved to Melbourne in 2015 having founded of the Institute of Hypnoenergetics, but loves coming home to spend time in Byron Bay whenever possible. Colleen will speak about the life and work of the late Dr Michael Newton, founder of the LBL Spiritual Hypnotherapy and author of such iconic books as Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls.

I had a past life regression with Colleen in 2012 for my book No Goodbyes, which helped me revisit lives in Central America, and in the Middle East. I was delighted when Colleen told me this week that she will also be speaking about past lives.

Well known Sunshine Coast medium Julie McKenzie will be doing platform demonstrations on centre stage during the lunch breaks and people will be able to enjoy their lunch with the potential bonus of connecting with a loved one in the world of spirit.

Each day begins at 9.00am with an audience meditation conducted by healer and spiritual coach Richard Yiap, who is also one of the speakers. The first day’s program concludes with a special energy transmission by intuitive advisor Elisabeth Robinson and the conference wraps up with a sound healing by ‘sound oracle’ Ananara Zolta.

There are also two special workshops conducted by Rosemary Guiley on the Friday night and Linda Backman on Sunday January 15.  Verandah Magazine publisher and editor Candida Baker will be the  MC for the talks in the Cavanbah Room.

The third International Afterlife Conference will be held at the Byron Theatre (Community Centre) between January 13-14. For more information about the program and the full list of speakers go to: afterlifeexplorers

Astrologer and writer Barry Eaton reviews Iris Detenhoff’s ever-popular Moontime Diary, and we’re offering three copies of the 2017 Moontime Diary  as a giveaway.  Simply leave a message below saying why you’d like to win, or visit our Verandah Magazine FB page.

Five years ago while waiting patiently in a queue at the post office I struck up a conversation with the woman standing next to me, to help pass the time. Imagine my surprise when I found out Iris Detenhoff was a fellow astrologer waiting in line to post out copies of her latest astrological Moontime Diary.

Not being a great believer in coincidence I took it more so that this was a meeting that was “created in the stars” to give it a mainstream media tag. We agreed to catch up sometime for coffee and to have a chat. We astrologers just love to get together and chat in “astrospeak” much to the puzzlement of fellow café dwellers.

That was over five years ago. Since then Iris and I have had many “astrospeak” sessions and she has also made regular appearances on my radio program RadioOutThere speaking about her excellent Moontime Diary.

The diary itself is cleverly created to appeal to everyone from those with a mild interest in astrology through to professional astrologers. It is obviously based around the daily phases and transits of the moon, but also has some very helpful advice for the day. This information embraces tips for health, diet, household activities, business affairs and a lot more.

Each day lists the main aspects of the moon and planets, which is a handy reference point for astrologers, and saves time looking up charts or checking the ephemeris when making plans.

The diary contains very helpful information for both astrologers and the general public. For astrologers the full planetary tables for the year mean that you don’t have to cart around an ephemeris with you while you are out and about.

In ‘Celestial Insights’ Narelle Duncan gives you a more in depth idea about the planets movements throughout the year while Gisela Stieglitz’ forecast focuses on the week.

There is also a very helpful section on gardening, as you would expect in a moon diary. The ‘Garden Timing Table’ reveals the best moon phases and signs for everything from fertilising and sowing through to maintenance, weed and pest management and harvesting. I found the information about the work of Maria Thun, who related each part of the plant to one of the four elements very interesting.

For the non‐astrologers the Moontime Diary has a comprehensive section on each sign as it relates to the

Sun or the Moon, Gift Inspirations, Intention Setting and Affirmations. There are also very helpful sections on eclipses, basic aspect interpretations, a Wheel of the Year’ and the Moon’s relationship with crystals. The Moontime Diary is well laid out and the stunning zodiac illustrations by Jake Baddeley complement what is overall a very useful and practical diary for astrologers and the general public alike.  I’ve been using for years.

Book Review by Barry Eaton

The Love of Spirit

by Liz Winter, Balboa Press

Liz Winter is a medium living and working in the Northern Rivers area – like many of us in the area she felt guided by some unseen presence to leave the big city life, head north and start a new life.  Although Winter had started her training as a medium in Melbourne, it was only after she summoned enough courage to start working professionally in her new location that her true purpose in life started to unfold.

For the Love of Spirit is Winter’s personal story, a single mother who battled the odds to help people connect with their loved ones in Spirit, and in doing so grew both personally and spiritually. For the Love of Spirit is an easy read and will certainly help others either in their quest to develop their own psychic abilities, or simply to understand the process and benefits of contacting spirits in the afterlife.

Liz tells of connecting with her spirit guide, White Owl, who is able to communicate with her with clairaudience with words of support, as well as helping her to connect with those in Spirit. Every medium needs what is often referred to as a ‘spirit control’ or a ‘gatekeeper’ to connect our world with the world of spirit and help establish and maintain clear communication. These powerful guides often present themselves in various archetypal forms, such as Red Indians, Buddhist monks and the like, to make us feel more comfortable. White Owl’s relationship with Liz has certainly been a strong influence in her work.

Many books written by mediums and psychics are full of anecdotes about their work and the people they encounter. I feel that these authors are often trying to prove to people that they are genuine, asking for a pat of approval on their collective backs. Not so with Winter – she has left her ego safely locked away with her story. Winter does include some of her encounters in the world of spirit, but this book is essentially a memoir, and this is the true strength and appeal of the book. One story made me chuckle when I read it. Winter was expecting her next client to arrive, only to see a man in a police uniform stride through the door. Like most of us in the same circumstances her heart missed a couple of beats as she assumed she must be in trouble. It turned out that ‘Ken’ was on his way to work and had to come for his reading in uniform. Winter was able to connect with his late wife who had passed shortly after their honeymoon and the messages that she had for Ken helped him to move on with his life.

Liz also writes openly about her own relationships and family situations, taking the reader into her world in a warm and embracing manner. All-in-all For The Love of Spirit is a very enjoyable book.

Barry Eaton, from Radio Out There, reviews Verandah Magazine’s columnist Sonia Friedrich’s new book, and finds it a practical roadmap for healing…

11 Steps to Healing, by Sonia Friedrich  (self-published: soniafriedrich)

Healing in the business world is normally associated with getting your bank balance in order, or perhaps soldiering on while recovering from the flu.

This very simply written book puts healing and business success firmly in the personal sector whether you own the business or work for a boss. Taking problems out of the administrative basket and working with them through their emotions and intuition will come as a wake-up call for most people.

Sonia Friedrich’s 25-year corporate career covers advertising and marketing roles in Fortune 500 companies. It is refreshing to see a mainstream business consultant encouraging her readers to be honest enough with themselves to admit whether they are leading an authentic life.

I particularly liked the chapter posing the question of how many happy years you have left in this lifetime. It comes with an easy formula for self-analysis. Sadly, many people just exist in their daily life – happiness doesn’t come into the picture. However, the choice is yours, if you are prepared to make the necessary changes recommended by Friedrich.

Sonia Friedrich, author of '11 Steps to Healing'.

It is no coincidence that the following chapter is ‘Stop Lying to Yourself’. We all indulge in this pastime and I was surprised to see how this affects everyone, whether they are lying consciously or just avoiding the truth.

There are many self-help books filling the shelves of bookshops all around the world, but I was particularly impressed by the advice to business people to listen to their intuition and also to their body. A simple exercise demonstrating how the body constantly sends us messages is an invaluable guide for those who ignore these messages.

By reading this book and acting on the information it contains could not only help people heal their business problems, but also inspire others to find their real purpose in life.

For small business owners on a tight budget, the exercises it contains would also be a valuable staff training aid.

However this is a book that can help all manner of people whether you are in corporate life, or just trying to deal with life.

11 Steps to Healing is available at Soulife Byron Bay, Mary Ryan’s bookshop Byron Bay, and online from  soniafriedrich

The Inaugrual Afterlife Conference is taking place in Sydney on January 25-27

The Inaugrual Australian Afterlife Explorers Conference is taking place in Sydney on January 24, 25 and 26.

Perhaps even more concerning to humanity than the Secret of Life, is the Secret of Death.  Where do we go when we die?  Do we really die?  Now a group of afterlife experts, including our own local afterlife expert Barry Eaton are taking part in the first ever Australian Afterlife Conference.

Most people tend to associate conferences with a group of corporate type people getting together for a talk fest and post event social celebration.  Well, forget that! I am delighted to be part of a fascinating conference for people who don’t want to get all frocked up to impress the competition and of course their colleagues.

If you’re interested in the mysteries of life there is an exciting opportunity to be part of Australia’s inaugural Afterlife Conference in January in Sydney.

The Australian Afterlife Explorers Conference will bring together some of Australia’s and New Zealand’s finest afterlife researchers, academics, authors and mediums in a three day event over the Australia Day holiday weekend.

The main aim of the conference is to forge the link between science and spirituality, to challenge our negative perception of death and to remove the fear associated with it. “Death is one of life’s greatest mysteries,” says conference organizer, Mick Turner. “When we die, do we simply no longer exist, or is there a continuity of consciousness and progression of our soul?”

The prospect of our consciousness surviving the physical death of our body all too often is simply dismissed by a sceptical scientific community. Scientists sadly often ignore and ridicule reports of strange phenomena from those who have approached, and in some cases gone beyond, the threshold of death … even though such experiences have a profound effect upon those who experience them.

Some of Australia’s most knowledgeable professionals will be presenting a the conference, including retired lawyer Victor Zammit, International President of the Michael Newton Institute, Peter Smith, and Australian social scientist Michele Knight. Well known mediums Ezio and Michelle DeAngelis and Val Hood will not only speak at the conference, but will give demonstrations of afterlife contact. They will be joined by other leading mediums in special presentations on the Saturday and Sunday evenings.

I am very pleased to also be one of the presenters, as well as MC-ing what is shaping up to be a memorable weekend. Having written two books on this subject I can attest to the growing interest in all areas of life after death, ranging from Near Death Experiences to the afterlife journey itself.

barry_eaton1

Over three days there will be twenty-one presentations with a diverse array of topics including ‘The Metaphysical Experiences of Following and Observing Three Souls at the Moment of Physical Death’ by Michael Roads.

“It’s time we all realised that we are eternal beings,” says Peter Smith, President of the Michael Newton Institute. “We have Life between Lives therapists validating the afterlife experience for clients in 40 countries around the world on a daily basis.”

Whether you are grieving the loss of a loved one, curious about what happens when you die, or pondering your own mortality, then this conference will leave you feeling less fearful about death, inspired to live a more loving and purposeful life, and comforted  by new thoughts of your loved ones in the afterlife. One of the most important benefits of this conference will be to help people realise that life is ongoing, only the body dies.

The conference will be held at the Parramatta RSL Club in Sydney on the 24th, 25th and 26th January 2015

For more details of the conference, including a full list of the presenters and the daily schedule please visit the website Afterlifeexplorers
