Marcus Berg from Markandeya – in Mullumbimby for the 3rd annual Byron Spirit Festival.

The 3rd Byron Spirit Festival, full of music for heart and soul, takes place in Mullumbimby between March 20-22, and it’s bigger than better than ever.

“We’re thrilled to be presenting  two of the hottest young acts out of Europe and the USA in our evening concerts this year,” says media manager Alison Pearl. “Markandeya is a visionary pop/roots band from Gothenburg, Sweden – many fans met Marcus Berg and his mellifluous singing when he toured in 2014 with Sunshine Coast band OKA.” According to Pearl, Berg has a ‘mesmeric’ voice. “He’s really built a cult following in the alternative music world,” she says.
This year the Festival also features Dustin Thomas, an electrifying performer who entertained the crowds as bass player with Nahko & Medicine for the People in 2013.   “He’s coming back with his own band, which is celebrating the release of his CD The Watcher at the Well, which he recorded live in Byron and featuring local musicians Mel Dobra, Murray Kyle and Chad Wilkins,” says Pearl.
Thomas started writing the songs last year while living in Byron during the time of the Bentley Blockade.  He has said: “It was powerful and inspiring watching a community come together and stand up for their rivers and waters and aquifers; real proof that if individuals come together to make a positive change, we can move mountains.”

Both these trail-blazing acts join other select musicians and ceremonial creators for at the Mullum Civic Hall on Saturday, March 21st.
