Pelicans, pylons and a fly-past…

untitled shoot-3304
Pelicans are Lismore photographer Andrew Sooby’s favourite birds, and he takes every opportunity to snap these pterodactyl-style birds, as you can see from his Shot of the Week, and from his extra black and white offering below. Andrew captured the colour shot at Wardell, late one afternoon. “I was lucky with crystal clear light available for this photo,” he says. “Its warmth highlights the shimmer of the river surface and etches in the rusty texture of the old pylons. The elements of the shot are held together by the bright yellow navigation light, which caught my eye as I drove by the river. In a way, the pelicans are window-dressing!”
The black and white shot was taken at Evans Head: “I was standing on the Elm Street Bridge when this pelican made a graceful fly-past – or fly-over – with a perfect angle for my lens,” says Andrew.
